I haven't really shared much about the area in Amsterdam where I am living nor the less urban areas.
The "buurt" or neighborhood that I am currently living in is called the "de Pijp" - the Pipe. No one seems to know how the name was given to the area. This area is similar to Rockridge in Berkeley with lots of ethnic grocery shops, restaurants, bars, very multi-cultural, and a smattering of artists galleries/studios blended with the apartment buildings. In a previous blog I mentioned that the Albert Cuypmarket is next door. The particular part of de Pijp that I live in is referred to as the Oude Pijp with streets are named after artists of the Dutch Golden Age.

The largest square nearby is the Marie Heinekenplein, yes of the Heineken beer family.

But the real brewery is no longer located here as the beer is made outside of Amsterdam. But the building that was the brewery is now the Heineken Experience. Living next to it has not made me want to go see the exhibits which is strange for someone who likes beer like I do. Just don't like the taste of Heineken.
